I definitely go through phases when it comes to smoothies and smoothie bowls I must say; but seeing as we’re now coming into Summer I thought it would be quite fitting to start whipping out some fresh and fruity inspired recipes! Whilst I’m not the biggest smoothie fan, I do love a really thick, creamy smoothie bowl with a nice ice cream like consistency! This is perfect for a quick summer time breakfast, snack or dessert. It’s packed with vitamins from the fresh fruit and greens powder and also has a good hit of plant based protein in there as well.
Whilst I don’t think that protein powders and bars etc are essential to your daily life and diet, they are something that I often include in my meals and snacks and do really enjoy using. They’re a really quick and convenient way for me to up the protein content in my diet and are especially useful if I’m making plant based dishes. I often mix them into my porridge or yoghurt bowls for both flavour and of course, extra protein. I generally prefer the flavour and texture of vegan protein powders, but I have also tried some quite nice whey products too. So it really depends on your diet and personal preference here I think.
I’m so obsessed with anything berry flavoured and the creamy peanut butter undertones pair perfectly with the fruit in this recipe. Everyone knows that PB & J is a killer combo, so this was on the top of my list for one of the first smoothie bowl recipes of the season. I need to focus on my nutrition a lot more this year (I know this might sound a little odd coming from a health food blogger haha) but I will admit, I’ve been severely slacking recently and I definitely feel worse for it! This is a great way to cram in some extra goodness and still enjoy something that tastes delicious!
The greens powder that I’ve used here is probably one of my current favourites, as I don’t find the taste to be too prominent or bitter. Whilst they are great for you, I’m not a huge lover of things like spirulina or chlorella on their own, as the flavour is not astroturfing all tasty! So if you’re new to greens powders, then I would recommend giving this one a try!
